Christenings or Baptisms (the same thing) are very special occasions for those being baptised and their family, and for the church where it takes place. Baptism goes back to the time of Jesus and the very first Christians and has been the way since then that people of any age, from tiny babies to the oldest adults, have joined the Christian church. It a time of celebration and a time to give thanks to God. A christening service can take place during the main service of worship or at a stand-alone service at another time on a Sunday. The service is full of important symbols that point to new life : the water poured over the child or adult being baptised, the sign of the cross, and the lighted candle.
More information about Christenings can be found here.
